BMXs

BMX bicycles first came to prominence as people in the US were attempting to replicate the motocross stunts and racing that were especially popular at the time without actually using a motor bike, the term BMX itself is actually an abbreviation for Bicycle Motocross. If one was to compare a BMX to the more usual bicycle that most people would opt for then they would find it to be much smaller and lower, the wheels of a BMX, especially, are small with a standardised diameter of 20 inches, although there are some variations on these, but the size of the wheels very rarely exceeds twenty two inches.

BMX bikes tends to be much more effort to set into motion than a normal bike, which can be placed to the low centre of gravity, smaller wheels and short bicycle chain, however despite this these features also bring about some advantages to the BMX. The smaller size and thus reduced weight allow the rider to perform various stunts and tricks. The fact that BMX allows the rider to perform stunts in largely responsible for the huge popularity BMX experiences, with many riders enjoying the challenge of attempting to pull of especially difficult tricks. Some may even take BMX to a professional level with riders competing in competitions that are often televised worldwide and have a fanatical following. It is also not uncommon for BMX riders to involve themselves in racing, such as downhill trials.
